COACHING

If you’ve ever felt the swing from joy to despair (and back!) in sixty-seconds, you’re not alone.

As a fellow creative, I know the thrill of sitting in a darkened theatre on opening night of one of my productions. I’ve also experienced the disappointment of critical comments, empty seats, or lackluster performances that didn’t accurately convey my vision or capability.

The creative journey can delight and energize. It also comes with a fair share of inherent challenges. Some are technical. Others hit more tender places. Over the past four decades I’ve experienced all of it.

Would you value some strategy and support to help you get to the next level in your own journey? Bringing creative work of any kind into being is a smoother road with the right help.

STORY WORK

Throughout various forms of creative work, story is a taproot to truth and wonder, both the stories we write and the ones we live in the process of our creating. With both, to me the undergirding approach is to serve the audience (whomever that may be) and to glorify God.

For storytellers, my passion for history is a specific strength I’d love to help you add to your arsenal. If you seek to tell a living story of human history, I will come alongside and serve as needed in areas of guiding concept, analysis, authenticity and production values.

  • "Paula has been a mentor and acting coach of mine for many years. She was the first coach that encouraged me to go for my dreams and pursue a career in the arts. She holds her students to a high standard and helps them exceed their own expectations. Paula taught me the importance of nuance, and subtext. She teaches with kindness and passion and has a magical way of bringing out the best work in each of her students. She will always be on your team and cheer you on. She cares deeply for her students and is one of my biggest cheerleaders in my career and I will forever be grateful for her encouragement!"

“The amazing support I received from the arts faculty and program at CPA under the leadership of Artistic Director Paula Flautt had a huge influence on my life and career. Not only did I learn invaluable skills, I was encouraged to explore and pursue my passions and my dreams which led me to become the first CPA student to perform on Broadway (I’m sure I won’t be the last). I have also had the privilege of producing three different professional productions of Paula's riveting adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" to much critical acclaim. Never did I dream I'd be asked to fill her shoes (an impossible task) as Artistic Director at CPA, but alas I have embraced the challenge with passion and determination, two of the countless attributes I learned from Paula".

“Paula Flautt is a creative force. As an educator for three-plus decades, she has honed the craft of helping artists develop their stage skills with precision. I marvel at her ability to take young and sometimes inexperienced students and create a show that would rival any professional theater in town. She’s also a skilled storyteller who has developed unexpected and creative adaptations and original works that are filled with meaning and purpose. You would do well to work with Paula, not just for the technical skill she brings to the project, but for the encouragement and edification that will come from knowing her.”

“We’ve used Paula Flautt for script coverage on two separate occasions for a musical we are developing. Each time, she has offered great insight and understanding into the characters, the way they speak, and the scenes they inhabit. Her keen understanding of how everything connects together has given our project a new and fresh perspective. Paula brings a high level of excitement and enthusiasm to her work and is very encouraging to other writers. We highly recommend Paula if you are looking to improve your script and take it to a higher level of excellence.”

  • ""I had such a wonderful experience working with Paula on worship arts projects. She is incredibly talented and skilled at what she does, but what stood out to me just as much was the way she works with people. Paula approaches everyone with genuine kindness, humility, and encouragement, creating an environment where people feel valued and supported. Her love for the Lord is evident in everything she does, as she leads, serves, and uses the gifts God has given her. She is a light to those around her and has a beautiful ability to bring both creativity and purpose to everything she does. Paula has such a unique vision and a true gift for bringing that vision to life. I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to work alongside her and would highly recommend Paula to anyone looking for someone who is not only exceptionally gifted, but also leads with humility, faith, and a genuine heart for others."

“Ms. Flautt's adaptation of A Christmas Carol is thoughtful, elegant and a challenging showcase for a troupe of gifted, versatile actors. It is a very exciting ensemble piece and, is quite unique in the sense that it includes plot points of the novel not in other versions, and all the language in the play is essentially taken directly from Mr. Dickens' work which makes the piece very true to the author's intent. Featuring a flexible cast become storytellers allowing the audience to feel as if someone is telling them "A ghost story of Christmas". Ms. Flautt also had the creative foresight to commission the arrangement of several Mozart pieces and original compositions using a 5-piece orchestra, thus enriching, and underscoring the action onstage much like you would a film.”
